do you know what the scarlet letter is? it is many things...a book, a charm, the beginning letter for adultery and angel...we're doing Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter right now in my english class, and my teacher decided we would all illustrate either what we think the letter looks like or things about the story around the letter. i chose to do both, in a way. the letter is supposed to be ornate and covered in gold thread; many who see it believe a scarlet light shines from it, even in the dark. pearl, the product of hester's adultery with dimmesdale, is a nature-loving girl, so i made all kinds of vines and flowers on the inside with gold accents everywhere. the outside reflects the 'flames' thought to be seen and felt. yeah. i got many a headache from this, but i'm proud of it.
